The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD),
which opened its Atlanta campus in 2005, has begun a two-year,
$2.2 million restoration of the historic Peters House, built
for Edward Peters in 1883. Designed by Gottfried L. Norrman,
it is the earliest and most important building in the Queen Anne
Style remaining in Atlanta. It originally sat on 400 acres, which
became the basis for Midtown Atlanta.
This special tour will be lead by Bob Dickensheets, head of the
restoration team for SCAD. Interior highlights include carved
woodwork details, hearth with carved maxim, Japanese sliding
door panels and overdoor panels depicting a sunrise, original
configuration of second floor and original paint colors. This
tour is given in conjunction with the APC's
guided walking tour of Historic Midtown.
