Talk and Book Signing by William Rawson Smith

Sunday, March 25, 2007
5:30 - 7:00 pm
Sunday, March 11 10:00am

Before the High Museum of Art, Villa Clare -- J.J. Haverty's Mediterranean style home on Peachtree Street -- had the best art collection in the Southeast. Villa Clare: The Purposeful Life and Timeless Art Collection of J.J. Haverty provides a unique new perspective on the story of early Atlanta in a beautifully designed book that features high quality reproductions of Haverty's original collection of American Impressionist and Realist paintings. Come early (4:00 - 5:30 pm) to sample a selection of wines and stay to hear the author talk about the story of Haverty and his art collection. Details here.

The reception, talk, and book signing will take place at Rhodes Hall -- the former residence of J.J. Haverty's friend and business partner, Amos Giles Rhodes. One of the last remaining mansions that once lined Peachtree Street, Rhodes Hall was designed for furniture magnate Amos Giles Rhodes and his family. Rhodes Hall is now the headquarters for The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation and is operated as a house museum.

Cost: 5:30 pm talk is free; 4:00 pm wine tasting is $10 per person at the door.

Directions: Rhodes Hall, 1516 Peachtree Street. Free parking behind the house, on Spring Street. MAP

MARTA: North rail line to Arts Center Station, then walk 3 (long) blocks north along West Peachtree and/or Peachtree Street, or take bus #23, to Rhodes Hall. This event is also accessible via the MARTA Midtown Tourist Loop.
