Grady Memorial Hospital - Guided Walking Tour of 3 Historic Buildings
Tuesday March, 09 2010 11:30 AM

Guided tours of three historic buildings: Georgia Hall, the original Grady Hospital building.  Following Henry Grady’s death in 1889, the Atlanta City Council provided for the establishment of a hospital to commemorate him. Built on land purchased from Col. Lemuel P. Grant, owner of the house in which The Atlanta Preservation Center’s offices are located, the city-supported hospital opened its doors to patients on June 1, 1892. Steiner Clinic was added to the Hospital in 1922 through funds from the estate of Albert Steiner. The Clinic was dedicated to the research, study and special treatment of cancer and other allied diseases. Hentz, Reid and Adler was the architectural firm; Neel Reid was the principal designer. Feebeck Hall was built in 1942 as a result of appeals from the US Public Health Service to provide large numbers of graduate nurses to serve the country’s military need. Designed by Hentz, Adler and Shutze with Clement J. Ford and constructed during war years when materials were scarce, the red brick structure is simple in design.
