Georgia State Capitol Guided Tour - Architecture and Art
Thursday March, 18 2010 4:00 PM

Architecture and Art of the Georgia Capitol: One of the most distinct parts of the Atlanta skyline is the Georgia Capitol. Built to symbolize Georgia’s rebirth after the Civil War, it signaled not only Atlanta as the capital of Georgia but also of the “New South.” This tour will demonstrate how the building’s architecture serves both practical and symbolic functions. The tour will also feature a discussion of the recent renovation and the realities of historic preservation in a working capitol. Weather permitting, this tour will feature an outdoor portion.

The March 11 tour follows 3 pm tour of Central Presbyterian Church.
