Founded in 1869, New Hope AME Church is located on land owned by the church since 1872, although the New Hope Camp Ground was located on this land at least as early as 1869. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, the current sanctuary was constructed in 1936 to replace the 19th century church which was destroyed by fire. The church’s cemetery, located across the street, includes documented burials as far back as 1889. A presentation on the history of the church will be given followed by a tour. The church will also have its traditional barbeque with sales to the public from 10 am to 4 pm. Proceeds from the barbeque benefit the church.
